FindMySoft Editor's Review
Shup – Free, Multi-host screenshot, Image, and File Uploader
Review by on
Let me start off by asking you a couple of questions. Do you need an application that can upload images to the web? Do you need a tool that can load other files, apart from images, to the web? Do you need an application that can capture what’s displayed on your screen? And last but not least, do you want to part with no money whatsoever to use such a tool?

If you answered “yes” to all the questions presented above, then there’s only one thing I can say: you need to take a look at the Daniel Green-developed application Shup.

It does everything I mentioned above. Let’s recap, shall we? Shup is an application that can:

- Upload images and other types of files to the web. You can upload files to your own web server, or to various hosts such as Flickr. Shup keeps track of all your uploads in a searchable database, as well as a local archive of uploaded images (this last one is optional).
- Capture the entire desktop or just a specific window. To do this you can use Shup’s system-wide hotkeys which are customizable.
- Edit images. Shup comes with a built-in image editor which you can use to crop images, draw on images, flood fill images, and so on. You can upload images to the web directly from within the image editor.

Before you go get Shup and put it to the test, take the time to look at the technical details presented below:
Download – the download weighs in at 691KB, which is quite lightweight. At such a lightweight download size, it will only take a moment for the download to complete.
Supported OS – at the time of writing this and according to the developer, Shup works with Windows 2000, and Windows XP. The developer explained that the shell extension is broken on Vista and Windows 7 at this time.
Limitations – there are no limitations. As mentioned above, Shup is free. You can use it free of charge for as long as you want.

Pros
  • Lightweight download
  • Built-in image editor; upload photos from within the image editor
  • Upload files to your own server or to Flickr
  • Screen capture utility
  • Freeware

Cons
  • Doesn’t work properly on Vista and Windows 7 (at this time; but support for Vista and Windows 7 will be added in a future update)
  • Very basic image editor
